About us

Liquid Rocketry Lab (LRL), is a 501(c)(3) non-profit company, with a team of more than 150 NC State University students. We are a liquid propulsion and launch vehicle systems research team. As one of North Carolina’s first liquid propulsion laboratories, we are racing to build the world’s first collegiate liquid-powered rocket to reach the Karman line: the designated edge of space. Alongside this goal, we hope to design and put together a test stand, the second of its kind in this country. Finally, in doing so we hope to build a sustainable propulsion program here at NC State.

Our five sub-teams span the majors across campus from every branch of engineering to business. LRL is poised for growth with a network of investors and mentors. Think of us as the extra nudge to propel NC back on top of the aerospace industry.

As an organization, we believe humankind’s future is in space exploration and would like to contribute to that eventuality. Each member of LRL brings a level of expertise, experience, and diversity of knowledge invaluable to such an ambitious endeavor. Our long-term plan is to build an Engineering Center of Excellence based on the Caltech-JPL model which was started in much the same way. The project provides students with interdisciplinary first-hand experience that can only be found on projects of this scale. We are always looking for passionate new members with a willingness to learn.
